Details of Achievements

PHCP has reintroduced more than hundred captive bred hogs at three sites in Assam and continues to promote scientific management of grassland habitat. The Assam Haathi Project has helped in reduction of human elephant conflict with community based interventions in five districts of Assam through use of such chilli deterrents solar power fencing capacity building and strengthening of livelihoods in the affected communities. EBP has promoted community based ecotourism.

Pygmy Hogs bred in captivity at Basistha Guwahati and Potasali Nameri were released in Orang National Park under a conservation breeding and reintroduction project with support and partnership of the Assam State Forest Department.
Rural Development MPLAD Scheme Central 2015-2016 1208413 Rs Grant was in support of Assam Haathi Project, a project for mitigation of human elephant conflict. Under the project a solar power fence and three community weaving center were planned and eventually constructed to benefit the inhabitants of three villages, particularly women.
International Union For Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources IUCN Overseas 2016-2017 9299081 Rs In addition to conservation breeding of critically endangered Pygmy Hogs ((Porcula salvania), the Pygmy Hog Conservation Programme continued to work towards restoration of threatened grassland habitats in some PAs of Assam. This year captive bred were reintroduced in Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary in collaboration with the Assam State Forest Department. Hogs released in Orang National Park between 2011 and 2015 were monitored and assistance was given for scientific management of grasslands in the PA
